The Virginia Beach School District is the second largest school district in Virginia and in the top 50 largest school districts in the United States. Educating approximately 80,000 students, the school systems maintains 55 primary schools, 15 middle schools, and 11 high schools. Large in number, the class sizes are relatively small at a 14:1 student-teacher ratio. In addition, SAT I scores are comparative to the national average and 85% of graduates plan on attending a post-secondary school.
Striving to create “an exciting, learning environment,” The school board of the Virginia Beach School District has seven goals for the district to meet each year :
